THE CAST

EDU GONZALES | VOLUNTEER   Edu Gonzales is a determined woman. After retiring from her job working for an oil company in nearby Algeciras Edu decided to put her time to good use. So she became involved with the pound at Los Barrios. Edu heads the small team of volunteeers there looking after nearly 400 dogs. From administering medicines to organising adoptions Edu never stops working. She has helped stop the killing of dogs in the pound.

AMEE TOWNSEND | SPANISH STRAY DOGS (FOUNDER)   Amee was living in Andalusia when she first came across the Los Barrios pound. After a terrible flood caused the deaths of many of the dogs the pound sent out an SOS for help. Amee went along to help but was overwhelmed with the size of the problem. In Spain she set up Spanish Stray Dogs charity and on returning to England she set up the UK branch. With the help of donations the charity provides a lot of the resources that allow the pound to survive..

AMEE TOWNSEND | SPANISH STRAY DOGS (FOUNDER)

Amee was living in Andalusia when she first came across the Los Barrios pound. After a terrible flood caused the deaths of many of the dogs the pound sent out an SOS for help. Amee went along to help but was overwhelmed with the size of the problem. In Spain she set up Spanish Stray Dogs charity and on returning to England she set up the UK branch. HARRIET ADIE | THE RESCUER   Harriet is an animal rescuer and lives in the hills above Tarifa, Spain's most southernly point. At any one time she has up to 30 dogs in her compound along with 3 kids, 1 pig and various cats and other sickly animals. She has rescued and fostered over 500 dogs in recent years. Her determination to bring sick and wounded animals into her life and to then find homes for them is incredible.

HARRIET ADIE | THE RESCUER

RICHARD JUSTINO | Staff   Richard is a passionate man and one of the head staff at the pound. He looks after and cares for the dogs as though they were his own children. He attends the shelter everyday and more often than not he is the first person to arrive and the last person to leave. His daily chores are hard. Each of the large compounds need to be cleaned of the dog poo from 400 dogs. He helps Edu when she needs to find dogs that require their medicines. 

RICHARD JUSTINO | Staff

Richard is a passionate man and one of the head staff at the pound. He looks after and cares for the dogs as though they were his own children. He attends the shelter everyday and more often than not he is the first person to arrive and the last person to leave. His daily chores are hard. ROSALIA MENDEZ MICOL - STAFF   Rosalia lives in a beautiful house by the beach in Algeciras. Now retired she has devoted her life to the caring of the dogs in the Los Barrios pound. Without fail Rosalia turns up at the pound every day and works so hard in order to give the dogs some sort of a normal life. She understands the problem of Spains stray animals and has her own very strong views on what could be a possible solution to the problem.

ROSALIA MENDEZ MICOL - STAFF

RUBEN OROZCO - PPP DANGEROUS DOGS  Ruben and his girlfriend Natalia look after and manage the dogs that are deemed as dangerous breeds. Generally these dogs are not in fact dangerous which allows Ruben and Natalia to find homes for them, generally in Finland where there is no distinction in the breed of dog as there is in other parts of Europe. A policeman by trade Ruben gives over a lot of time to get these generally unloved dogs a home.

Ruben and his girlfriend Natalia look after and manage the dogs that are deemed as dangerous breeds. As an emotional lady she sometimes struggles with the degree of cruelty that has been inflicted on the dogs before they arrive at the pound.

Juan Jorge has a busy life and volunteers at the pound when he can. He loves animals. In the film we go with him on a dog walk by the river. Dogs who were lethargic in the pound come alive when Juan Jorge come as they know they are going to get an hour by the river.

Road traffic accidents are a common source of injury for stray and abandoned dogs. Other problems include Leishmaniasis which is a horrible parasitic disease seen in the Mediterranean regions . It is passed on to the animal through the bite of a sandfly.
